In the console world, there is no bigger battle than the Sony PlayStation versus the Xbox One. In some markets, the PlayStation is the clear winner, while in other markets, the Xbox platform is the winner. However, Sony is looking like a clear victor lately with each months sales.
In the US, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has managed to outsell the Xbox One for the fourth month in a row. This news comes from the NPD Group whose recent figures have proven that the PS4 has sold more units compared to the Xbox One for the month of April in the US. You might remember the days when the Xbox 360 console managed to dominate the US market for more than a year. Well, that was then and this is now. Times have changed.
As for video games in general, the NPD Group says that Titanfall is currently the best selling game at the moment, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14, Minecraft, LEGO The Hobbit, The LEGO Movie Videogame, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Apple’s deal with Japan’s largest mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo was a smartphone move for the company, as according to a recent report, the deal has helped the Apple iPhone grab a 36 percent share of Japan’s mobile phone market.
The news comes in a report from research firm MM Research Institute LTD, who have said that sales of the Apple iPhone accounted for 36.5 percent of all mobile phone sales in Japan for the 12 months up until the end of March 2014.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 is selling very well, but what exactly are the numbers? According to Sony who has announced their latest figures, it looks like they have now sold over 7 million consoles to date.
In November of 2013, Sony announced that they sold 1 million units in 24 hours. Then later in February we learned that Sony had sold 5.3 million units, and now, a few months later Sony announces that they have passed the 7 million units sold mark. That is most impressive. Sony mentions that the 7 million were sold to consumers, as opposed to retailers. So these are real numbers of consoles in people’s homes.
DayZ the multiplayer open world survival horror video game, in the format of the standalone, unfinished version of DayZ that debuted on Steam’s Early Access channel on Dec 17th 2013 has now passed 2 million sales according tots developer Bohemia.
Priced at $30 the DayZ standalone game started as a mod for Arma II Operation Arrowhead and now takes pride of place at number three on Valve’s Steam best seller list.
Nintendo has released its latest annual financial results, the company posted a loss of 46.4 billion Yen, which is around $457 million US dollars.
The company made a net loss of 23.2 billion Yen, around $228 million US dollars, and Nintendo also revealed that they sold only 310,000 Wii U consoles in the quarter to the end of March.
