In the console world, there is no bigger battle than the Sony PlayStation versus the Xbox One. In some markets, the PlayStation is the clear winner, while in other markets, the Xbox platform is the winner. However, Sony is looking like a clear victor lately with each months sales.
In the US, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has managed to outsell the Xbox One for the fourth month in a row. This news comes from the NPD Group whose recent figures have proven that the PS4 has sold more units compared to the Xbox One for the month of April in the US. You might remember the days when the Xbox 360 console managed to dominate the US market for more than a year. Well, that was then and this is now. Times have changed.
As for video games in general, the NPD Group says that Titanfall is currently the best selling game at the moment, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14, Minecraft, LEGO The Hobbit, The LEGO Movie Videogame, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 is selling very well, but what exactly are the numbers? According to Sony who has announced their latest figures, it looks like they have now sold over 7 million consoles to date.
In November of 2013, Sony announced that they sold 1 million units in 24 hours. Then later in February we learned that Sony had sold 5.3 million units, and now, a few months later Sony announces that they have passed the 7 million units sold mark. That is most impressive. Sony mentions that the 7 million were sold to consumers, as opposed to retailers. So these are real numbers of consoles in people’s homes.

Sony PlayStation 4 owners have some good news. Evolution Studios’ Driveclub was supposed to be a launch title for Sony’s new console, but back in October we learned that the game had been pushed into a 2014 release. Well, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed the Driveclub PS4 release date for all of us who were left wondering.
This highly anticipated title will be released for the Sony PlayStation 4 on October 7th, 2014. That is a delay of almost an entire year, but as Yoshida says “the problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way.” True enough. Let’s hope that it will be worth the wait.
