Fans of Call Of Duty Â take note:Â The next installment of theÂ Mission: Impossible movie franchise is turning to one of the gaming world’s biggest franchises for creative input.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 writer Will Staples has been tapped to rewrite the script forÂ Mission: Impossible 5 , which is expected to hit theaters in 2015. Â Iron Man 3 Â screenwriter Drew Pearce wrote the initial draft of the screenplay.Â
While Staples is best known for his work in video games — having penned bothÂ Modern Warfare 3 andÂ Need For Speed: Rivals — the upcomingÂ Mission: Impossible sequel isn’t his only big-screen project. He also has the Ben Affleck filmÂ Blood & Treasure in development, as well asÂ King Of Heists,Â which is set to star Jeremy Renner.Â
The last installment of theÂ Mission: Impossible Â franchise, 2011′sÂ Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol grossed over $694 million, and the sequel will bring back tom Cruise as special agent Ethan Hunt for yet another espionage-driven adventure. Christopher McQuarrie ( Jack Reacher ) is attached to direct the film, with Cruise producing the project along with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company and Paramount Studios.
The film is expected to hit theaters December 25, 2015.
