Google Maps is my personal favorite when it comes to navigation and directions, at least for my region. It shows me the shortest possible routes, and helps me get the right directions to my destination.
Recently, the folks at Google pushed out a big update for Google Maps for Android and iOS, and introduced a number of new features and enhancements to improve the app.
The latest update comes with improved navigations, and shows users which lane to stay in or move to so you don’t go on a wrong direction. It now shows distance, arrival time and quick access to alternate routes in case there’s some disturbance on the road or if you get stuck in massive traffic. The improved filters let you find out hotels or restaurant’s opening hours, rating, price, and more to find the most suitable one.
Google also introduced improvements to offline maps. You could save the maps offline previously as well, but now you can name them for easy access. “Before setting off on your next vacation, hike, or roadtrip, search for an area and tap on its place info sheet, then when available, you can select “Save map to use offline,” and give your map a custom name, like “Toronto Vacation.” To find your offline maps, sign-in, tap the profile icon next to the search box in the top right corner, and scroll to see “Toronto Vacation” and other saved maps,” Google said in a blog post.
It also brings some transit-related improvements as well, helping you find out about the time for the next train, or even the time at which the last train will leave a specific location. It also comes with Uber support. If you have Uber app installed, you can compare your ride with transit and walking directions right from Google Maps in some cities. If the Uber route is more suitable, select it and it will open the app with a single tap.
The latest Google Maps update for iOS and Android brings several useful features and improvements. If you’re a regular user, head over to the respective app store to download the updated Google Maps.
